Federal green building incentives will be up for debate when a House committee tackles legislation that would encourage more energy-efficient construction.
The House Financial Services Committee will scrutinize H.R. 6078, a bill that would provide incentives to lenders and financial institutions to provide lower interest loans and other benefits to consumers, who build, buy or remodel their homes and businesses to improve their energy efficiency.
"This legislation proves that it is easy to be green," bill sponsor Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.) said in a statement. "This bill helps revitalize our economy by making energy efficiency practices more affordable, accessible and achievable by consumers, businesses and government entities."
A representative from Enterprise Community Partners, a nonprofit that advocates for energy-efficient affordable housing, is expected to endorse the bill.
"I think this is a great start," said Angela Flores, Enterprise's deputy director of public policy,. "It's the most comprehensive green affordable housing bill that we've seen at the federal level."
